February 19, 2010 - Swansea - Five people were injured Wednesday in a car accident involving a police cruiser and a passenger vehicle. As the Herald News reports, Officer Alan LaChance was driving down Route 6, preparing to pull over a vehicle, when he broadsided a separate car.
Four people in the passenger vehicle were injured, including two children under the age of three. The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Jared Shelton, and his passenger, 19-year-old Shelbi Provencher were treated at Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both children were treated at Hasbro's Children Hospital, where one remains in critical condition. Officer LaChance also suffered minor injuries in this car accident.
We send our thoughts and prayers to Jared Shelton and Shelbi Provencher, who were injured in this serious car accident. We hope that they make a complete recovery. Please keep these injured victims and the two small children in your prayers. It would be in the injured victims' best interest to contact an experienced Massachusetts personal injury attorney as soon as possible. If the police officer is found to be negligent in this accident, the injured victims could have the opportunity for a civil lawsuit.
