March 5, 2010 - North Smithfield - A Swansea woman who was seriously injured in a single-vehicle car crash in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, has died of her injuries. According to reports in The Providence Journal, 23-year-old Katie Fleet passed away due to injuries she sustained in a car accident last Thursday.
Fleet was driving on Route 146 when she lost control of her SUV during a rain storm and plunged down an embankment on the side of the freeway. The SUV hit several trees before coming to a stop. Two passing motorists, including 26-year-old Casondra King and her husband, Jamie Kozusko, called 911 and attempted to keep Fleet conscious until first responders arrived.
Katie Fleet later died at a Rhode Island Hospital of unspecified personal injuries. She was a graduate student at Worcester State College, and The Providence Journal reports that she loved dance and her work as a speech pathologist. Funeral arrangements were held on Wednesday. Melissa Fleet, the victim's aunt, said she was grateful that Casondra King and her husband stopped to help her niece.
