Massachusetts Woman Killed By Unsecured Fire Truck Hose

Posted on Feb 03, 2010

February 3, 2010 - Cambridge, Mass. -
An elderly woman suffered fatal personal injuries after being struck by an unsecured fire truck hose that had come loose as it turned a Cambridge, Mass. street corner on Tuesday, January 26.

According to NewYorkInjuryNews.com, Gertrude King, 82, was standing on a median when the fire truck passed her with its lights flashing and sirens sounding.

As the fire truck passed the Cambridge accident victim, the fire truck driver was unaware that an unsecured hose-which was not attached correctly to its specialized compartment-was slowly unraveling as the vehicle continued down the street.

King was knocked to the ground by the fire truck hose, suffering life-threatening personal injuries. She was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for emergency surgery to treat her accident injuries. Tragically, Gertrude King succumbed to her personal injuries two days later.

Authorities said the fire truck driver involved in the Cambridge accident was not aware that the hose was unraveling, but that the fire truck that followed the first one was able to contact that driver to report the situation. Cambridge Police are currently investigating the fatal accident to find out why the hose was not properly secured at the time.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gertrude King for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Our heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved King. Please keep them in your prayers.
